The Kentucky Federation of Republican Women

KFRW News

Message from our President, Carol Rogers

To all our Republican Women's Club Presidents: Thank you for the wonderful job each of you are doing in your local clubs. I wanted to share several items with you:

  • Some Like It Hot!- Mark your calendars for our Fashion Show Event on May 18th. This will be an elegant, impressive, and fun event to help us raise money for KFRW to help with the upcoming NFRW Convention and our KFRW budget. There will be lots of details presented soon on this event- but you will want to add it to your calendars now! The event will be in Lexington at the Embassy Suites.
Click here for more details and hotel reservation information

  • NFRW Convention- As you know, this convention will be held right here in our Commonwealth! It will be Sept. 20-22 at the Galt House in Louisville. This is a great opportunity for us to attend at the lowest cost (no airplane ticket to buy!) and to show off our Kentucky. The convention is a great time to learn more about politics, hear prominent speakers, and meet great women from around the country. You will get more information about registration, etc. from NFRW. Each club may send one voting delegate and one alternate but any member can attend. KFRW members are hard at work raising money and preparing for this convention.

    • Debra Henley, NFRW Convention Registration Chair needs your help!  She has sent the following request for volunteers to help during the convention.  If you can volunteer only two hours, this will help!  Here is her message:
September may seem like it is still some time away but it will be here before we know it and so will the 2013 NFRW Convention in Louisville. We are still in need of many volunteers to help with registration the week of Sept. 19th-22nd. We have received the name of some volunteers but not nearly enough.  We still need 30 volunteers on Thursday, Sept. 19th and 30 volunteers on Friday, Sept. 20th, as well as 16 volunteers on Saturday, Sept. 21st and 4 volunteers on Sunday morning, Sept. 22nd. Volunteers can work in two hour increments starting at 8 a.m. each morning. You can email me at dshenley@insightbb.com  or call me on my cell phone 918-798-9571.
Thank you for your continued help and thank you to those who have already volunteered.

  • Board of Directors Meeting- As a Club President, you serve on the KFRW Board of Directors which meets twice a year. The next meeting will be on May 18 from 2-4 (after the Fashion Show) in Lexington. If you cannot attend, someone from your club can come as your proxy. All members are welcome to attend and an official Call will be sent out 30 days prior. These meetings are a great opportunity to learn, meet members from around the state, and become engaged on our Federation.

  • Legislative Day- this was a great day in Frankfort as over 90 women wearing red made a great showing. The speakers were all very informative and the legislators all appreciated us being there. Thirty five legislators were sponsored for lunch. Thank you to Ann Cheek for organizing the day's events and to House Republican Leader Jeff Hoover for sponsoring the day. Please encourage all your club members to stay vigilant as to what bills are being debated and voted on in Frankfort. It is important for us to speak out about legislation as we really do have an impact. The Legislative Message Line is 1-800-373-7181. You can go to www.lrc.ky.gov  to see what bills are proposed, where the bills are in the process, which committees bills are assigned to, and which legislators serve on each committee. Let's all stay engaged and active in the legislative process.

  • Membership- Be sure to send in your dues and service charge if you have not already done so. The forms and address of the treasurer are attached. Help Julie out by filling out your forms legibly and accurately. Be sure to include email addresses for members who have them; these are entered into our Constant Contact system so that members can get information directly from KFRW. Remember that you can add members at any time. Be sure to ask new people to join and be sure you have invited your elected officials and their spouses to become members. Remember that men can be associate members of your local clubs (Those names are not sent to KFRW).

  • New Clubs- We currently have clubs in less than 1/3 of Kentucky counties. Please let us know of any people interested in getting new groups going. Currently Henderson County is working on forming a club and there is interest from Russell County. Our governors are very willing to help get new groups going.

  • KFRW Scholarship- Did you know that the KFRW offers a $1,000 scholarship to a high school senior girl? If you know a conservative young lady who is interested, have her contact the guidance office at her high school. All schools have the applications. Thank you to Tina Fox for coordinating this important program.

  • Web site- KFRW has an outstanding web site thanks to Kathye Schattner- our web master! If you have any pictures, calendar events, or other news please send it to her so she can share it. k.schattner@insightbb.com . The web address is www.kentuckyrepublicanwomen.org . If you have not joined our facebook group, check that out as well - Kentucky Republican Women (KFRW)

  • Lastly, be sure to utilize the NFRW web site www.nfrw.org. The user name is federation and the password is nfrw1938. This site has lots of valuable information for your clubs. One thing you might want to pay attention to is the Achievement Awards. These will be recognized at the Convention and your club can still be working to fulfill the requirements. The activities listed for awards are the things that help all our clubs be strong and effective.

Thank you again for your leadership!
